Rachel Lincoln is a clàrsach player who performs at weddings and events throughout Scotland. Clàrsach is the Gaelic word for harp.
Rachel was brought up in Perthshire and began learning to play the harp at the age of 8 when she attended her first Edinburgh International Harp Festival. While at school Rachel competed in and won many music festival competitions and local mods. Rachel was a winner of the clàrsach competition at the National Mod in Perth in 2004.
Rachel attended Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd (the National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music) in Plockton where she studied the clàrsach along with piano. During her time at the NCETM Rachel studies composition, teaching techniques, sounds production as well as performing at a range of events including being part of a Songs of Praise episode for the BBC as well as being filmed for the Highland 2007 Year of Culture promotion video. Rachel went on to study a MA(Hons) in Scottish Ethnology and Celtic Studies at Edinburgh University where she furthered her understanding of Scottish culture and the central part music plays to this.
Since graduating Rachel continues to perform at weddings and events including playing at the Year of the Homecoming Edinburgh as well as performing for the First Minister. Alongside this Rachel has been in the studio with a Gaelic singer Ceitidh Caimbeul and for a CD to help tourists navigate round the Isle of Skye.
Currently Rachel is based near Oban, Argyll and Bute. Rachel plays a Glencoe Starfish harp.
